AgroEco® Coffee
Building a Culture of Sustainability — Connecting Consumer and Producer Communities
AgroEco® Coffee is a product of CAN’s Trade Innovations Program. We developed an alternative-market business model for coffee to increase the income to small-scale farmers transitioning toward sustainability. Through a web of relationships among farmers, researchers, students, farmer cooperatives, and local roasters, CAN brings AgroEco® Coffee to the U.S. market.
Our approach to the supply chain — directly linking farmers, roasters, and consumers — generates higher returns to coffee farmers and improves rural livelihoods. In addition, CAN’s AgroEco® Coffee contributes proceeds to a Sustainable Agriculture Fund — a portion of what the consumer pays for every bag of coffee is used to promote environmental sustainability in the cooperative. Most recently, the Fund was used to invest in a low-pollution coffee milling plant and to support research on bird and tree abundance and diversity.
When you see the AgroEco® Coffee logo, you know you can expect:
- Shade-grown, Arabica coffee beans
- Bird-friendly habitat
- A higher return on coffee to farmers
But the AgroEco® Coffee logo stands for much more. It stands for:
- Fairness
- Human dignity
- Economic justice
- Environmental conservation
- Food security
It represents long-term commitments with producer cooperatives and
family farmers.
