SOLIDARITY NETWORKS FOR OTHER ECONOMIES

Youth Pollinating Seeds of Life to Bring Health
to Home Territories

“To heal the territory is to heal the body. It is to have water, health, food, solidarity, and autonomy.”
RIAC youth member

The international youth network we call RIAC-JOVEN, brings youth together every year through an international exchange to share experiences and practices that support their stewardship of seeds, soil, water, and community foodways.

In 2020 the RIAC-JOVEN pronounced itself as a movement that transcends borders to defend agroecology and food sovereignty in rural and urban communities. CAN accompanies the youth network by creating curriculum in agroecology, facilitating spaces of reflection on topics identified by youth leaders, and co-hosting each international youth exchange.

Now in 2022 youth organized into various commission to plan and host this year’s hybrid virtual and in-person youth exchange that brought together over 300 participants for two days of dialogues, workshops, and recipes focused on 7 main topics:

Youth Confronting different forms of Oppressions and Gender Violence

Traditional Agriculture, Agroecology, Health and Nutrition

Diversification and Home Gardens

Composting and Vermiculture

Cooperativism and Solidarity Economies

Defense of Water and Home Territories

Migration: From the Countryside to the City

Donate to the youth of our network as we work to make possible our first in person youth exchange after the pandemic in 2023!

Youth in our network have become central in building just community-controlled economic initiatives and supporting their communities’ transition out of agrochemical dependency and toward accompanying families in the thoughtful agroecological transition to diversified agroecosystems represented by: traditional milpa, traditional home gardens, coffee forests, and urban community gardens.
